LapSit is offered on Monday's at 9:30 or 10:30am. So sorry, but at this time both LapSit sessions are full.
Story Time is offered on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 10:00am or 2:00pm. So sorry, but at this time the 10:00am on Tuesday, the 10:00am and the 2:00pm on Wednesday Story Time sessions are full.
Our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th/5th grade book groups meet one Saturday a month at 9:30 or 11:00am. Book Group session that are FULL: Book & Art (1st grade) both sessions are FULL, Book Bunch (2nd grade) the 9:30am is FULL, and the PageTurners (4th/5th grade) the 9:30am is FULL.
Just a reminder: if you missed the last book group we will hold books for you to pick up 2 weeks after the group meeting. After that only a library copy of the book may be available. Food Bank Donations in Lieu of Overdue Book Fines

The library is not collecting overdue fines. Instead of fines, we ask that you donate nonperishable food items for the Exeter Food Bank. Collection bins are located by both circulation desks. Thank-you!

2011 Ladybug and Great Stone Face Nominees

The Ladybug Picture Book Award is designed to promote early literacy and honor the best in recent children's picture books.

The Great Stone Face award, books geared for fourth through sixth graders, is to promote reading enjoyment and to increase awareness of contemporary writing.

If you READ you can Ride!

The library is involved in the reading incentive program offered by the Rye Airfield, New Englands premiere skatepark and BMX track. The basic premise is to encourage reading among school age children. Children can either read a book on their own or have one read to them. After the book is finished, come to the library and talk with a librarian about the book. For each book read, children will recieve a stamp. Collect 5 stamps and recieve a FREE all day pass to Rye Airfield. Click on the link to the right for additional information about the park.

Toddler LapSit is offered from September through June. Two sessions are offered on Monday's at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Lapsit is available to children 18 months to under 3 years old. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up is required.
One Lap, One Child.
Each weekly program will last approximately one-half hour. The children enjoy finger plays, songs, and of course, books. Sign up is limited in each session to provide an enjoyable experience for all participants.
Story Time is available to children beginning at 3 years old. There are 6 sessions : Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. Each Story Times lasts approximately one-hour and includes a weekly craft project. Sign up is required.

For the following 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th/5th grade book groups: Sign up for the book discussion groups will begin the month of September and is ongoing until groups are full. At this time, both sessions of Book & Art, the 9:30 a.m. Book Bunch and the 9:30 a.m. PageTurners groups are FULL. Book Groups meet from October through May.
Dewey's Book Buds (3rd grade) and the PageTurners (4th/5th grade) will meet the second Saturday of each month at 9:30am or 11:00am.
On Saturday, February 11th: Dewey's Book Buds will discuss: "Ellie McDoodle Have Pen Will Travel" by Ruth Barshaw. PageTurners will discuss, "Paint the Wind" by Pam Munoz Ryan.
Book & Art (1st grade) and Book Bunch (2nd grade) will meet the third Saturday of each month at 9:30am or 11:00am. On Saturday, February 18th the Book Bunch will discuss "The Magician's Boy" by Susan Cooper. The Book & Art group will be surprised by their book and art project.
The library provides copies of the book, which participants keep. Groups last approximately one-hour. Join us for lively book discussions, special activities and snacks. Sign up is required to participate in all book groups. Ask any librarian for more information. List of books "Read & Rated" by previous groups are on links to the right. Check them out for possible books you might enjoy reading.
All activities are available to Exeter residents and members of the library.

Open Art

Open Art is a weekly craft project available to members of the library designed for adults and children to complete together. It is available Mondays and Fridays from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm. The project changes weekly. Directions for the project and all supplies are provided.

There is a wonderful selection of children's books available to dowload from this site to include EPub books compatible with portable book reading devices.
Click on the OverDrive Media Console link to the right. You will need to download software. When you sign in you will get a "library prompt". Scroll down to the "Exeter Public Library". To enter your library card number, type in the prefix - 4507 and your library card number.

Come Visit Our Forest!

Celebrating "Young Artist's Month", the walls of the Children's Room will exhibit the work of 5th grade students from various classes at Lincoln Street School. A collection of 24 pencil sketches of trees were matted for display by Art instructor Deb Wheeler Bean. The show will hang throughout the months of January and February. Check out the slide show on the right side of our webpage. If you click on the image it will appear in a larger window to see all the details. Enjoy the show!

FYI: Larry Kennedy, a photographer from The Carriage Towne News, stopped in to see the exhibit. Check the paper around February 20th to see his article!
